Short and clear: which data VocabNomad processes and what for.

In the app

Your account has no name and no email address, only a random ID.
Stored are your words, your learning progress, your learning settings, your devices (e.g. “Android app”, last active), the AI cost per day and feedback you send. Storage and server: Cloudflare.
Photos, texts and spoken answers you give to the AI are processed by Anthropic (Claude) to create flashcards, answers and ratings. The app itself records no audio: speech recognition and reading aloud run on your device, the app only gets the recognized text.
Reading texts (beta): the app gives the text or photo to the AI to read it. Only the words you keep are saved and, if you want, the text on your device.
Podcast: for stories and grammar episodes the app sends your words, your learning settings (also “How do you speak?”) and your topic to the AI. The stories stay on your device. Whether you know or exclude a word is part of your learning progress.
Troubleshooting log only if you switch it on: photos and texts of your captures, AI answers and what voice control heard, for 30 days. Default: off.
Everything stays until you delete your account (More > Account). Then it is gone from the server right away. Backup files on your device stay with you.

On this website

This website sets no cookies. Texts, fonts and images come from our own server; only the visitor statistics load a small script from Cloudflare.
When you visit, our server at Cloudflare processes technically necessary data such as IP address, time, page and browser to deliver the page and protect it from misuse.
For simple visitor statistics we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It works without cookies and does not recognize you on other websites.
If you write to hello@vocabnomad.com, we use your address and message only to reply. Cloudflare forwards the mail to our mailbox at Google.

Service providers

Cloudflare, Inc. (USA): server, storage, email forwarding and visitor statistics.
Anthropic, PBC (USA): AI for flashcards, answers, ratings and podcast texts.
Google LLC (USA): mailbox for emails to us.
Data also goes to the USA. This is based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the standard contractual clauses of the EU Commission.

Legal bases

Using the app: contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Troubleshooting log: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), revocable any time in the app.
Website, emails and security: legitimate interest in a fast, secure site and in answering your questions (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your rights

You can ask for information any time and have your data corrected, deleted, restricted or handed over. You can object to processing and withdraw consent. Just write to hello@vocabnomad.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority.
